Compass incorporates classic Jeep® brand design with modern interpretations in styling. The present-day Compass was inspired by the 2002 Compass and Jeepster concept vehicles. Capability

A staple in Jeep® brand capability and confidence is its ability to handle the rough stuff whether its rain, snow, dirt or mud. Compass's state-of-the-art Freedom-Drive I™ active full-time four-wheel-drive (4WD) system anticipates the need for added traction and responds to wheel-slippage automatically to help ensure you have a safe and carefree driving experience. Freedom-Drive I features an Electromagnetic Controlled Coupling (ECC), which constantly monitors wheel slippage and transfers torque to the axle that can use it most. During high-traction driving, like on the highway, the system transfers virtually no torque to the rear axle for improved fuel economy but instantly transfers torque to the rear wheels when conditions call for it.

The four-wheel-drive “LOCK” mode is recommended for deep snow, deep sand and other low-traction surfaces.

Both the standard full-time and LOCK modes include many standard safety features including: Brake Traction Control, Driver-controlled three-mode Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Brake Assist, Electronic Roll Mitigation, Antilock Brakes System (ABS) with rough-road detection.

All of the 2.0L and 2.4L World Engines feature a heavy dose of high-tech: Intake manifold and exhaust flow control valves, Dual overhead camshafts (DOHC), Four valves per cylinder, Forged crankshaft and connecting rods, Aluminum block, and Acoustic oil pan.

Green Alert! The 2.4L DOHC 16V dVVT PZEV I-4 engine is one of the greenest cars on the planet. A Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) is a vehicle that meets Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) tailpipe emission standards and has zero evaporative emissions from its fuel system. It also features a 15-year (or least 150,000 mile) factory emissions warranty. Rejoice. There are two available transaxles on Compass: a five-speed manual or second-generation Continuously Variable Transaxle (CVT2) with AutoStick® that allows for either fully automatic shifting or driver-interactive manual control. Tap the gearshift left or right for complete control of six simulated stepped-gear ratios. Or just leave it in drive and let the advanced CVT2 transaxle handle the rest.

Safety & Security

Keeping you and your passengers safe in the event of an accident is very important to us. Both Compass models feature standard advanced multistage driver and front-passenger airbags and front and rear side-curtain airbags. Supplemental front seat side airbags are available. The integrated restraint system includes three-point lap and shoulder belts for all seating positions. Engineered crush zones divert and dissipate impact energy away from the passenger compartment, helping minimize injuries in the event of an accident. Compass's body components combine to form a structural safety cage and provide outstanding occupant protection in the event of an impact. For added rear occupant side-impact protection, an ultra high-strength roll-formed steel cross-car beam is bolted to the body structure under the rear seat. All work to help guard vehicle occupants.

During extreme steering maneuvers the standard Electronic Stability Program(ESP) system helps maintain control by sensing when the vehicle is starting to over- or understeer. The system automatically applies individual brakes or controls the throttle to help you stay safely on course. When you don’t want the extra hand, ESP is specially tuned for performance handling so you can switch it off. The Antilock Brakes (ABS) incorporate multiple quick brake pulses to prevent wheel lockup during braking on slippery surfaces. The brake calipers instantly and rapidly grab and release the brake rotor to slow the vehicle and avoid sliding. Drive with confidence. Compass's All-Speed Traction Control system uses sensors to monitor wheel spin, reducing engine speed, applying the brakes to spinning wheels and transferring torque to the appropriate wheel when slippage is detected.
